Sunnybrae Footbridge

Sunnybrae footbridge is on the core path network of Avonbridge and Standburn linking with the River Avon heritage trail. Falkirk Council's Engineering Design Unit have the responsibility of maintaining the bridge. The proposed structure has been designed in line with current standards and guidance, including requirements under the Equality Act 2010, with the aim of improving accessibility and providing a safe crossing for all users. The design includes features intended to support inclusive access for people with disabilities, including those with visual impairments and mobility challenges.

We are also aware that there are differing views locally regarding the need for this type of structure.

While the footbridge itself meets current design standards, alterations will affect the overall usability of the route for some members of the community. As such, we are keen to ensure that the perspectives and lived experience of local people together with people with disabilities, including blind and partially sighted users, are fully considered as part of the decision‑making process.

We are consulting with charities and groups representing people who might benefit from infrastructure that is designed to be inclusive to all.

Responses from this consultation will be used to inform decision making about future changes that may be made to the Sunnybrae footbridge.
