Slamannan Regeneration Fund - Public Realm Proposals

Falkirk Council has allocated a budget of £500,000 for the purpose of delivering projects that will support economic and environmental regeneration in Slamannan.

Following community engagement, undertaken in Summer 2023, the following projects were approved by Falkirk Council on 6 December 2023, for further design and feasibility work:

  • Royal Hotel demolition and creation of green space at this site;
  • Village Clock restoration; and
  • Public Realm Improvements to main parade.

The Royal Hotel demolition project is scheduled to commence in Spring 2024, and complete in Summer 2024.

Preliminary works and tests are ongoing on the Village Clock, and a programme of works will then be confirmed and progressed.

This engagement focusses upon the Public Realm improvements to the main parade and Falkirk Council would like your feedback on the design proposals.

Design Phase

20 February 2025 00:00 - 1 August 2025 23:00

Following community engagement and consultation during 2023, a list of priority projects was identified in Slamannan. These projects were then checked for feasibility, an outline costing applied, and an approved list of priority projects was then agreed.

In Slamannan the focus was on improving the public realm around the village shops on High Street. There was also a strong desire to see the former Royal Hotel building opposite the shops demolished which is now complete.

Final designs have now been produced which include:

·      restoration of the village clock including lighting;

·      resurfacing, planting and seating in the pedestrian area to the front of the shopping parade; and

·      creation of a pocket park on the former Royal Hotel site.

The new pocket park will incorporate the date stone from the former hotel and interpretation explaining the history of the site. There will also be a tree planted which, once matured, will become the festive tree for the village, with a power source being built into the design.

The next steps are to appoint a contractor to carry out the works during summer 2025. Some planting may have to take place later in the year depending on species needs, but the majority of works are scheduled to be completed during the summer months.
