'How Should Our Places Grow?' Consultation

3 October 2025 23:00 - 22 November 2025 00:00

This consultation is now closed. Everyone who responded to the 'How Should Our Places Grow?' survey or attended our drop-in sessions has provided valuable feedback to shape the emerging Proposed Plan for the Falkirk Local Development Plan 3. The summary report overviews the feedback we received from the 311 survey responses. Thank you to those who took part in the consultation.

Preparation of our new Local Development Plan (LDP3) continues to progress. Following the completion of the Evidence Report in January 2025, we are now working towards preparing the Proposed Plan.

Call for Sites and Ideas - Responses

We carried out a ‘Call for Sites' from January to May 2025 giving developers and landowners the opportunity to suggest sites which they wished to have considered for inclusion in the Proposed Plan. Most suggested sites are for residential use either just housing or largely housing with some other uses such as shops and community facilities. A small number of landowners and developers suggested sites for tourism, leisure, data centres, business or industry. The sites are available to view on the interactive map (opens in new tab). Each site will be assessed by Falkirk Council against a range of factors including their accessibility; impacts on the environment, communities and infrastructure; and deliverability. Please note that the sites are merely suggestions made by developers or landowners at this stage. They are not planning applications, and only a limited number are likely to be selected for inclusion in LDP3. Falkirk Council has not taken any view on the merits of suggested sites, and will not do so until the Proposed Plan is published in autumn 2026.

A ‘Call for Ideas’ was also carried out, inviting individuals or community groups or organisations suggesting various improvements or new uses in their local area. The Council's website (opens in new tab) has a short summary of the ideas expressed during this consultation.

'How Should Our Places Grow?' Consultation

The Proposed Plan will outline how and where the area will grow and develop over the plan period of 2028-2038, and beyond. It will be set out through a series of strategy themes: Place and Well Being, Climate and Nature, Homes, Business and Infrastructure.

Pictures of the themes for the Local Development Plan 3's emerging spatial strategy. The themes are place and well being, climate and nature, homes, business and infrastructure.

We would invite you to complete our survey which is based around the strategy themes and asks questions about priorities for growth and change in the Council area. This will help us in making choices for the Proposed Plan. Please click the 'Take the survey' button to participate in the consultation.

You can also view our video which tells you a bit more about the Plan and how to comment.

In addition, we will be hosting exhibitions in local libraries. At these venues, we will hold in-person drop-in events where you can speak to members of the LDP3 team about the ‘How Should our Places Grow?’ Consultation. The date, time and address of each event can be found under 'Upcoming and ongoing events' on this webpage.

What happens next?

The Proposed Plan is expected to be approved by the Council and issued for formal consultation in autumn 2026.
