Integration of Children’s Social Work and Justice Services

A programme board has been convened to consider the integration of Falkirk Council’s Children and Families Social Work Services and Justice Social Work Services into Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership.

The programme board is now gathering views to inform recommendations to Falkirk Council and the Integration Joint Board in January 2025.

It is expected that any integration of services would take place from April 2025 – subject to the necessary approval and planning processes.

Based on the feedback and insight gathered during staff engagement sessions, recommendations and reports were presented to Falkirk Council on 26 June 2024 and the Integration Joint Board on 28 June 2024.

Members of Falkirk Council and the Integration Joint Board were asked to:

  • Note the position in relation to the proposed National Care Service
  • Note the progress in the work undertaken to take forward the integration of Children’s and Justice Social Work with the HSCP
  • Agree that this work should continue to fuller engagement with staff and service users, and the formal consultation on the addition of the Children’s and Justice Social Work functions to the Integration Scheme
  • Agree that the proposal for engagement and consultation will be that the services transfer with their current structures largely as they are
  • Note that there will be a report following consultation to Council and NHS FV Board, asking to agree amendments to the Integration Scheme
  • Note there will be a further report to the IJB seeking formal agreement to the transfer of children's and justice services coming within the function of IJB (subject to the outcome of the Integration Programme Board work).

This initial approval allows the Programme Board to progress consultation and planning activity ahead of presenting final recommendations to Falkirk Council and the Integration Joint Board. Any proposed changes are expected to be implemented from April 2025.
