How could the Glen/Westquarter Burn be improved? If you live near the Glen/Westquarter Burn or use the area, we want to hear from you.
The burn, which flows through Glen Village, Hallglen and Westquarter, and its surrounding greenspaces face a number of challenges, and we’re exploring how river restoration could help address them.
To help us understand what could work, we want to hear from the people who know and use the area. Tell us how you use the burn and surrounding greenspaces now, what could be better and what you’d like to see in the future.
We’ll bring the responses together to identify common themes and understand what matters most to people who use the area. These will be considered alongside the opportunities and constraints of the burn itself, and the funding available, to help identify what could potentially be explored further.
What are the issues with the burn?
The burn currently faces a number of challenges, including erosion, sections that have been straightened and engineered, and flooding in Westquarter.
What is river restoration?
We are seeking to improve the health of the burn and the spaces around it, including better habitats and greater biodiversity, new or improved paths, bridges and cycle routes, tree planting, improved greenspaces and greater resilience to flooding, heat and drought.
This is a joint project involving Falkirk Council, SEPA, and AECOM, with AECOM leading on the consultation and production of the final report.
