A Fairer Falkirk for everyone - have your say on Falkirk's future equality outcomes

We need to agree what inequalities we will address over the next 4 years. It is important that we focus on the biggest inequalities we see across our area, which will make a real difference to people’s lives.

Below are the outcomes we think we should work towards, based on data and other evidence from across our services.

We need you to tell us which of these are most important to you, your family and your communities. We will use your views to confirm which of these outcomes we agree to focus on over the next 4 years and will publish these as part of our Equalities Mainstreaming and Outcomes report in 2025.

1.     Our services meet the needs of those experiencing inequalities

·      to do this we will focus on better understanding the needs of our communities, especially for those with protected characteristics

2.     Travel across our area is inclusive and accessible, especially for young people and those with disabilities

·      this includes all forms of travel including road and footpath design, public transport, cycling and walking

3.     Young people (16-19 year olds) are supported to enter and sustain work, education or training, particularly those from our most deprived areas, those who are care experienced and those with additional support needs

·      19 year olds from our 20% most deprived areas are significantly less likely to be in a positive destination compared to across the whole of Falkirk or Scotland

4.     Single mothers are supported to increase their household income

·      this relates to mothers as 92% of single parents in poverty are female

5.     People with disabilities have access to the opportunities and integrated support they need to enter, sustain and progress into and within fair work

·      this relates to employability as well as linking to the Health and Social Care Partnership (who have their own Equality Outcomes but may have a role in supporting this)

6.     Parks and open spaces are accessible for everyone to enjoy, especially for those with disabilities

·      access for wheelchair users will be maximised when preparing individual park masterplans, formulating proposals for park improvements and improving play facilities

7.     Attainment is raised and educational inequality is reduced, especially for those at risk of experiencing inequalities 

·      gender and ethnicity impact significantly on attainment as does living in an area of deprivation
