Employer equality outcomes for consultation
The Public Sector Equality Duty requires public authorities to have due regard to certain equality considerations when exercising their functions, like making decisions. One requirement under the specific duties is to publish equality outcomes every four years and report on progress every two years – these must include employer equality outcomes. You can see our current equality outcomes in our mainstreaming report.
The purpose of this consultation is to let you know about our proposed employer equality outcomes for 2025-29. We have drafted these outcomes based on our obligations under the Equality Act and Public Sector Equality Duty, our workforce strategy and Fair Work First requirements. We would welcome your views on any of the outcomes.

Feedback for the employer outcomes:
Respondents felt that a graduate scheme that offered permanent posts would be more beneficial for those who want to apply but seek job security - Unable to guarantee post at end of graduate placement but priority interview as part of redeployment policy is in place.
Respondents noted the need to upskill managers on the various initiatives so that they don’t just have the accreditations, but everyone knows what they mean for their role - Action updated to promote across the Council - this includes managers, employees and applicants.
Respondent noted "hands on" training on equality and diversity in the workplace would be beneficial - Alternative training included in actions
