Street Lighting Review

Falkirk Council is reviewing street lighting across the area to ensure it meets modern standards, supports community safety and contributes to our journey towards net zero carbon emissions.

We want to hear your views.

Street lighting plays an important role in how safe and comfortable people feel when travelling after dark whether walking, wheeling, cycling, or driving. At the same time, advances in technology mean there may be opportunities to reduce energy use and environmental impact, while still meeting the needs of our communities.

This survey aims to understand:

• How residents feel about current street lighting levels
• When and how often people use streets during darker hours
• How lighting affects perceptions of safety
• Any concerns about lighting, such as brightness, dimness, glare or uneven coverage
• How potential changes to lighting levels might influence travel and behaviour

Your feedback will help us find the right balance between maintaining safe, accessible streets and reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. This evidence will guide future decisions on how and where street lighting may be adjusted.

We encourage all residents to take part and share their experiences. Your input is essential in shaping a street lighting approach that works for everyone while supporting Falkirk’s long-term sustainability goals.
