Camelon Community Action Plan

The Community Planning Partnership are about to commence a Community Action Plan in the Camelon area. A community action plan (CAP) is a participatory tool that helps community members identify and address their problems, needs and potential. It also aims to encourage community involvement and management of their environment. A community action plan can include various programs and activities that are designed to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of the community.

The CAP will be developed throughout 2024 by a Working Group comprised of a mixture of community members, volunteers and professionals from statutory and third sector organisations.

Survey on Proposed Actions

22 January 2025 00:00 - 15 February 2025 00:00

The Camelon Community Action Plan (CAP) Working Group has been meeting monthly for almost a year now. The group has engaged with Camelon residents, both online and in-person, as well as examining published statistics relevant to the area.

Our community engagement has highlighted the following key themes for improvement:

1.     Outdoor Space: The Camelon Community want to enjoy the outdoors, including paths, walkways, greenspace and playparks. They want their neighbourhood to be tidy and safe. However, litter, graffiti and dog mess are issues, and children and young people would like some improvements in the playparks.

2.     Community Safety: Concerns re road safety and antisocial behaviour were raised during community engagement.

3.     Health and Wellbeing: Statistics show that life expectancy is lower in Camelon than the rest of Falkirk and the Scottish average. Camelon has a high number of people living with illness and disabilities. Hospital admission rates are high, and there are concerns re mental health and substance use.

4.     Things to do: Camelon has lots of local facilities, such as the Mariner Centre, The Sensory Centre, bowling, shops and supermarkets. However, community centres have closed or are about to close and there is a shortage of community groups.

5.     Economic Activity: High unemployment, high numbers of people living on benefits, the cost of living crisis and a lower level of positive outcomes for school leavers are issues that have been raised within the Camelon CAP Working Group.

The Camelon Community Action Plan (CAP) is now in draft, including a list of proposed actions. The proposed actions were presented to the Camelon community at an event in Camelon Education Centre in November 2024.

The working group would now like to share these proposed actions with the wider community. This survey will provide you with an opportunity to tell us which of the proposed actions you think are the most important for inclusion in the CAP.

The full set of survey questions is provided below.
