Camelon Community Action Plan

The Community Planning Partnership are about to commence a Community Action Plan in the Camelon area. A community action plan (CAP) is a participatory tool that helps community members identify and address their problems, needs and potential. It also aims to encourage community involvement and management of their environment. A community action plan can include various programs and activities that are designed to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of the community.

The CAP will be developed throughout 2024 by a Working Group comprised of a mixture of community members, volunteers and professionals from statutory and third sector organisations.

Camelon ‘Springs into Action’ as community action plan officially launches

📷 Falkirk Council Leader, Cllr Cecil Meiklejohn (centre) welcomed everyone to the event accompanied by Cllr Iain Sinclair.

Camelon residents sprang into action this week at an event to mark the official launch of the Camelon Community Action Plan (CAP) – a community-led blueprint for the area’s future.

Held at the Forth Valley Sensory Centre on Tuesday 20 May, the ‘Spring into Action’ event attracted more than 40 people, who came to explore the new plan and find out how they could help bring it to life.

Falkirk Council Leader, Cllr Cecil Meiklejohn said: “This is a fantastic example of how communities can lead the way in shaping local priorities. The Camelon Community Action Plan is rooted in what people have told us matters most to them, and events like this bring those ambitions into focus.”

📷 Local groups and organisations showcased the work already underway in Camelon – and how locals could get involved.

Developed in partnership with local people and based on feedback from previous engagement sessions and consultations, the action plan sets out key priorities for Camelon:

·      Community safety

·      Outdoor spaces

·      Health and wellbeing

·      Things to do

·      Economic activity

📷 Children enjoyed all the free events – including face painting.

The launch event brought people together to discuss the plan, meet with local groups, and share ideas over tea and biscuits.

📷 Even Axel the dog got involved – showing off his green paws!

There was also a plenty for the children to enjoy, with free face painting, seed planting, and even a visit from the local fire brigade.

📷 The fire brigade lent a hand – and a hose – to help water plants.

Everyone who came along took home seed packets – a simple way to support local growing and a reminder that the ideas and actions in the plan need time, care and community effort to grow too.

📷Council officers ensured everyone took home seeds to grow.
