Bo'ness Masterplan

Bo’ness Town Centre Vision and Masterplan

Falkirk Council have appointed a consultant team, led by Austin-Smith:Lord, to work with the local community (residents, businesses, civic groups) and other key stakeholders to prepare a Town Centre Vision and Masterplan for Bo’ness. It is intended that this work will shape the future of the Town Centre and help direct future funding and investment to deliver an improved quality of life.

The purposes of the Town Centre Vision and Masterplan are to:

·      outline a positive future for the Town Centre as the heart of Bo’ness

·      identify public spaces and buildings to prioritise for improvement

·      suggest what extra activities and uses could help the Town Centre and Bo'ness to thrive

·      make it easier to get to and around the Town Centre and Foreshore

·      identify priorities for action and investment

It is intended that this Town Centre Vision and Masterplan will help inform the next Local Development Plan (LDP3). The Town Centre Masterplan is progressing in tandem with the community's own Local Place Plan for the whole of Bo’ness, facilitated by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

In combination the Town Centre Masterplan and Local Place Plan are intended to capture the key issues and suggest priority actions and proposals to inform the future of Bo’ness into the 2030s.

The below map shows the extent of the Masterplan Study Area. It includes the area designated at Town Centre in Local Development Plan 2 as well as areas of the Foreshore.

Draft Masterplan Survey

Introduction

During 2025, the Council has prepared a draft masterplan for the future of Bo’ness town centre and foreshore, with input from local community groups, businesses and residents.

The aim of the masterplan is to inform future action in Bo’ness into the 2030s.

The town centre and foreshore masterplan will complement the community’s own Local Place Plan for the whole of Bo’ness, facilitated by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

The purposes of this survey are to:

·      Ask Bo’ness residents and businesses for feedback on the draft masterplan before it is finalised.

·      Ask for their suggestions on priorities for action, including how to make best use of the Council’s £0.5m capital regeneration fund.

The masterplan will then be refined in the light of respondents’ comments before it is finalised and considered for approval by the Council in Spring 2026.

The draft masterplan can be viewed below. It contains all of the draft proposals and further background information. But if you don’t have time to look through the whole document, you can pick up the main points as you go through this survey.

The closing date for the survey is 14th January 2026.
